Childhood friends, Buchek and Jaha, met again in Kuala Lumpur after being separated for so long. Now young adults - their attitudes and views about the world differ from one another. Buchek witnessed the wild lifestyles of Jaha and felt the need to bring him back into the righteous path and even willing to let go of his girlfriend Che' Nor in hopes of Jaha becoming a better person. However, Che' Nor could not fulfill Buchek's wishes and when a tragic accident took Jaha's life, he blames Che' Nor for it.
Quite impressive to see such dark and serious subject matter portrayed in a Malaysian movie. The story doesn't have that predictable resolution of the bad guy embracing religion and becoming good, as other Malay language films I've seen do. I think the acting is very good. The transitions from one scene to the next are sometimes sloppy, but overall I really appreciate the originality in Budak Kelantan. Nice to hear the way they speak too, cuz it reminds me of when I lived in Tganu.
