Raised a devout Catholic, Francis is a pious introvert who lives an impoverished life with his alcoholic, invalid mother. His mother's cruelty & the hardships of his own life cause him to doubt his religious conviction & turn inward where he silently observes the world around him. He begins to question his religious endeavors & take up a new one--spying on his sexy female neighbor, Gloria.
