What I loved most: Liam Neeson + Ewan McGregor
What I really hated: Jar Jar Binks
The movie wasn't as good as the original trilogy. The themes seemed to take a secondary role, supporting the technology to make the scenes look good. Looks like giving himself 30 years to let technology catch up really did George Lucas a disfavour. On the flipside though, I loved the scenes with Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor. They're fabulous, the way I would imagine the Jedi at their prime. I can't say Samuel L Jackson fits my perception of a Jedi. And Darth Maul makes a formidable Sith. Definitely more Sith-worthy than the later villians in Episodes II and III. Overall, not my favourite Star Wars movie, though it had its moments.

What I loved most: cinematography
What I really hated: everything else
This was supposed to be another cool gangster movie. A killer that's conflicted between his work ethic and his life. But it was told in a terribly convuluted, contrived manner. The whole flashback to piece everything back together, quiet angst of the killer gangster thing is overdone and passe. It wasn't even clear what the connection between the kidnapping and Harvey Keitel was. The acting is nothing to rave about. Francis Ng really isn't in this, mostly because if he is, the rest of the cast would probably look more silly. I found it really hard to sit through the movie. Totally disappointing. Don't waste your time on this.

What I loved most: Takeshi Kaneshiro
What I really hated: Predictable storyline
I expected a lot more from the movie, since this Andrew Lau and Alan Mak were the ones who did Infernal Affairs. With a strong protagonist in Tony Leung - I really thought this would be another mind-blowing movie. Sadly the storyline is tried and tested. Diabolical character with a horrible past seeking to rectify the injustice he suffered. It attempted to be more than just that, with subplots and a supporting cast, but those were just more distracting than anything. I think they could've withheld the identity of the person who committed the crimes to the end, and show it with a twist at the very end, like how they did it in The Prestige, but because they reveal to the audience who committed the crimes in the beginning, the movie falls to being a piece about the person's motivations, which was disappointing. It felt like they could've just made up anything they wanted at the end just to make the story make sense. Takeshi Kaneshiro did a really good job in his role. Not too over the top, but thoughtful. Too bad the storyline and script weren't really Golden Horse worthy. I wish his leading lady wasn't Shu Qi. She's the same character - whether she's here or in Seoul Raiders or some Leon Lai movie. Predictable. I expected more from Tony Leung, but he was just one-dimensionally moody and distant in this movie. No strong emotions - no joy, no hate, even though his character experiences some really traumatic events. He looks tired. He should take a nice long break. In all, it's a pretty average movie. Don't go in expecting Infernal Affairs quality work.

What I loved most: Gritty, dark treatment
What I really hated: The soundtrack
I think this was a fantastic James Bond movie. Finally - gone are the campy lines, bad editing and crazy gadgets (that were cool only in the 70s). Instead you get a vulnerable, human James Bond in Daniel Craig. A James Bond that doesn't care if he chips his nail or his hair is out of place or if his face is bloody. I love the new action sequences - not too over the top - I love the complicated storyline and I love the edgy new style. It's almost as it a renaissance has taken over, and all the old franchises are now sharpening up - Batman, Superman, James Bond. I love it!
