28 Weeks Later

What I loved most: The human drama

I never watched its prequel (28 Days Later) but nevertheless this movie is still worth to watch. The movie started in the darkness of a countryside cottage where a group of people were hiding form the zombie like people who were infected by the "Rage" virus (called the "infected" in the film). All hell broke loss when the "infected" gain accessed into the cottage and ran amok - tearing, biting and ripping into anything that lives. 28 weeks later, the virus has been contained and NATO led forces began rebuilding London on stages. This saw the reunion of Tammy and Andy with their father Don - the sole survivor of the cottage attacked. In a twist of fate, the children were re-united with their mother Alice who is presumed dead in the cottage attack. The reunion with Alice - who is infected yet immune to the rage virus - lead to a family conflict and subsequently another outbreak of the virus... It is a good movie, something that worth to ponder about - how far we as human race will go into killing each other when face with a situation like this?

Sumolah

What I loved most: Lots of funny on liners

What I really hated: Too much emphasis on sponsors' product placements - informercial is it?

With some of the main casts from neigbouring countries (Inthira Charoenpura & Gurmit Singh), this comedy is no doubt director/producer Afdlin Shauki's attempt at going regional. Afterall, the story line has an international appeal since it revolves around - what else - sumo and sushi - something which is quite alien to the local culture but well known in some part of the world. However, it is the message that Afdlin try to convey to the audience - about Nokotta, family and camaradarie that caught my intention. But the film's sponsors' message and product placements were excessively used making the movie looks more like an infomercial at time. Nevertheless, it still an enjoyable watch.
