Death Race

Jason Stratham plays Jensen, an ex-racer who one day finds himself set up for the murder of his wife. He is soon brought to the Terminal Facility and asked by the warden manager, played by the steely chrismatic Joan Allen who proposes that he takes the racing seat of "Frankenstein" who was killed in his last race. he would only need to race one more time in Frankenstein's name to attain freedom. All this was of course to raise ratings of the show Death Race. Soon Jensen realises the plot to have him arrested and race and soon makes his own moves on the racecourse to free himself. Lots of interesting convict characters and heavy artilliery with high-powered cars accompanied with babelicious navigators for each driver, Death Race will have yr heart racing by the end of the movie. The race resembles a game title being developed by Xbox or Playstation which I can't wait to get my hands on!

Love Guru

What I loved most: B.I.B.L.E

The strive to becomes the world's number one guru over Deepak Chopra, brings Mike Myer's character to take on the case of rekindling love between a star hockey player back with his wife who has eloped with the rival's hockey goalie, Le Coq (played by Justin Timberlake) will propel him to the very spot once he attains a segment on Oprah's show. Lots of funny anecdotes like D.R.A.M.A., sexual jokes and slapstick moments. I appreciate that is was not as crass as Zohan. Justin's small role was hilarious. Jessica Alba was her same sexy, smothering self as the hockey team manager which Mike Myers fall for. Nice songs and remakes and of the bollywood dancing and remixes gets a thumbs up from me!

The Mummy 3: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor

Mummy 3 is another visually entertaining movie. However, what lacks in this one compared to the previous 2 is the chemistry between Brendan Fraser and his new girl. Feels like Maria had a hard time filling in the shoes left by Rachel Weisz. The first scene with her in it suffering from writer's block was just too difficult to watch. Story starts when Brendan's son, now all grown up, follows his dad's footsteps and became an excavation hunter who is in China to unearth the Tomb of the Emperor but hot in pursuit are also a band of renegades who wants to raise the emperor for world domination. CG effects are well used here from the Shangri-la to the yetis to the big snow avalanche. Being an action movie, not much acting to speak off. Not sure if this instalment is as exciting as the previous 2 but still good value of entertainment provided.

Journey To The Center Of The Earth

How many can remember reading JTCOE during their schooldays? So it was surprising moviemakers still make movies like these today. The story starts with a geological professor trying to save his lab in school from being taken over and goes in search for his brother and truth. However, his nephew happened to be with him for a few days and both set out in an adventure that brings them to the centre of the earth. JTCOE is an outright Disney movie and one can just see the roller coaster ride that Disney Park is going to build after this movie. The usual CG effects to bring the audience into a 'whole new world' in the core of Earth, with luminiscent birds, attacking pirahnas, venus-fly-traps and of course dinosaurs. Nothing unpredictable here, so expect good clean and fun adventure. One for the kids.

The X-files: I Want To Believe

After several hit seasons and a long dry spell, X-files fans most anticipated movie however bombs badly. The pairing of Mulder and Scully (finally a couple, but not married) had many fans disgruntled and hoped that the sexual tension between them still existed. The storyline was oddly disappointing. It was not boring but being X-files, it was barely supernatural nor paranormal. I thought they should have extracted 3 of the biggest "monsters, ghosts or creatures" from their normal TV series, linked them up in a clever way and you would have a hit movie. Unfortunately, I am no storyteller and had to settle for a paedophile priest who have visions of a serial killer. There were some chases and a few gory deaths but otherwise I would recommend dusting off the old DVD and watching the old episodes at home.

The Dark Knight

I have to admit that box office has been bombed by this movie surrounding the hype that it was Heath Ledger's last role before his death and rightfully so cos if u catch it, you'll understand why. His role as the Joker was totally on the spot (complete with the voice, dialogue, look, mannerisms etc.) He stole the limelight from Batty! but of course all this wouldn't have mattered if the story sucked, but with a good plot and enough development for the characters, The Dark Knight was truly a movie experience for all. I am keeping my fingers crossed to have a first superhero movie to ever win an Oscar. Joker's intricate plots and death traps had the audience enthralled while Batman had to make difficult decisions, such as who to save, exposing him to feelings of self doubt, comtempt and regret, showing to us that he's human after all. Not to be missed is also Aaron Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent. Aaron's screen presence just stands out as the proseuctor who lost it all when he goes against the mafia and mob bosses of Gotham. Christian Bale, in my opinion, the best Batman ever, returns with another round of solid performance as Bruce Wayne. However, he was overshadowed by some of his new gadgets like the Batpod and his new suit (altho I didn't see much of a difference) and his new nemesis. Think I've gushed enough and if I haven't convinced you to watch this movie, you'll be missing out in an excellent one. Tough act to follow for the third Bat sequel.
