Gerald Butler is Kable, a man convicted of life inprisonment but now a player in the game of Slayers where a human controls him in a dangerous game of being in battlefield and trying to make it to save points. If a gamer makes it to the 30th round without dying, he is then released from his sentence and set free. Doing his final few rounds, Kable's motivation is to finish the game for his wife and daughter so that they can reunite. However, Michael C Hall's character @ the creator of the Slayers game pulls all the stops to stop it from happening. The front part does remind me of Death Race where prisoners had to race to win but Gamer is like a first shooter game. The plot is flimsy thin and even the special FX couldn't even save it. Shaky camerawork we've seen aplenty, so stop trying to make us giddy so that we won't notice the weak story. The audience does not relate to or emphatise with the male lead and hence leads to, imo, failure of the movie to engage. Well, for those who can't wait for Butler to be flexing his muscles in another action flick after 300 will not be disappointed. Do watch out for a cameo by Peter Petrilli (Milo V) from Heroes. Oh yes, the rendition of I've got you under my skin"by Michael C Hall is horrendous and irrelevant.

What I loved most: Teamwork gets the flying robot killed beautifully
9, being the title, is the lead of the animation. He is the ninth rag doll created but for what purpose. That is where the movie unfolds. Set in a world where machines have taken over the world, he soon finds out that there are 8 others with him and together they have to find a way to defeat the machines as they were being hunted. I loved the creativity and simplicity of the graphics, the idea & concept of ragdolls and yet the complexity of the machines, that mash together to form a well-balanced and not too overly grossed animation, that is refreshing. The movie is not too dark and should be suitable for kids as there were quite a few action scenes in it. However, it was not as touching as UP, but it does hold some nice messages and some tried-and-tested ones too. Be prepared to be captured by its bewilderment. Pure enjoyment which I thought lasted too short!

The 4th instalment of the Final Destination series does not stray far from the first 3. This time the male lead "forsees" an racing track accident from happening and manages to get his friends along with some other spectators away before the catastrophe occurs. However, in doing so, death comes back with a vengence and claims back what was meant to be. Some the ways the survivors met their ends were simply ridculous and too far-fetched to be believeable. Some were simply hilarious. Not one for gory movies, I found myself strangely riveted and glued to watch what death has in store for the next survivor. However, I found that the first few deaths were elaborate but towards the tail end the deaths were not properly set up and seem to be rushed due to lack of time. Overall, not a terribly horrifying experience. Oh yes, do look out for the swimming pool scene as it gives a new meaning to Kelly Clarkson's hit song "My life would suck without you."

Watching Orphan is like watching a Cantonese or Taiwanese drama serial because there is always this evil villian that everybody loves to hate and only gets their just desserts towards the tail end of the show! So there I was sitting for the entirety of the movie, feeling like strangling the lead evil girl. A couple loses a child and decides to adpot another to make up for their loss. They go to an orphanage and adopted an older child. BIG mistake or should I say poor choice. Soon the new member of the family starts to show her true colors in school and around home by slowly and cunningly planning and threatening when the time calls for it. She frignthens and uses the youngest daughter and the son, causing accidents, lies before making the mother mad when the orphan successfully turns the husband to side against her. A recovering alcholic, the mum has no one to turn to or believes her and resorts to her own means in protecting what's left of her family. Plot is not unlike those that we have seen before. However do expect a twist towards the end of the show (no spoilers here). What I didn't get was that with a son and a mute daughter in tow, why on earth did the couple have to adopt another. Maybe they should experience the equally horrifying costs of bringing a child up in Singapore or simply get a pet dog (to express their overflowing love)? Applause for the young actress portarying Esther who makes me want to slap her silly and equally riveting throughout the show. I highly suspect that no parent would being their child to watch Orphan, but if they do, do expect some violent and gory scenes.

Sandra Bullock is Margaret, a high-power, ballsy editor whom her subordinates fear and hate. Ryan Reynolds is Andrew, her assistant and person that gets her coffeee every morning and has been working with her for 3 years. The movie starts when Margaret is being summoned by her bosses that she shall be deported as her visa was not approved. Grasping at straws, she lies to them that she was secretly Andrew and that they were getting married soon. This particular scene was hilarious from the facial expressions of Andrew (utter shock, horror) as he was unaware of what had happened to him. Soon Margaret blackmails him in agreeing to her "proposal"but not before the immgrations dept sends an agent to investigate fraud marriages. This has them packing to Andrew's parents place in Alaska as she has to meet the family and also convince and inform them of their arrangement. Starting off sceptical, the pair soon warm up with each other as they find out more about each other and Andrew sees Margaret as more than the evil, mean boss. Sounding like a typical rom-com, The Proposal however has more emphasis on family ties, which was delightful and refreshing. Betty White stars as Andrew's 90-yr old grandma was funny. There are also many laugh out loud scenes from saving Kevin from the eagle, the bachelorette party & male exotic dancer, the chanting in the woods scene and many others had most of the audience laugh out loud. It also doesn't hurt to have 2 attractive stars fronting this movie. (I'm giving Sandra, Ryan, Betty and Kevin a star each) The Proposal is a must-watch movie!

Shot as a "mockumentary", District 9 starts by showing footage of a day in the life of a MNU (Multi-National Unit) officer, Villkus (I think that's how it is spelt), his role as the leader in the project of evicting aliens that has presided in District 9 in South Africa for over 20 years, after growing dissent among the human race. The shaky camerawork, whilst trying to project a reality filiming of sorts, was appreciatable but not quite necessary. In the course of work, being on the upper hand, in power and in control, he belittles the aliens, nicknamed prawns due to their appearance and conoting that there are at the bottom of the foodchain. He confiscates a cylinder of fluid and accidentally splashes some onto his face. Hours later, he finds himself transforming into alien as well and was soon hunted by the Govt for weapons testing as only an alien can activate alien weaponry. He soon seeks solace in District 9 powerless and running away from the very agency and people he was from. He then enlists the help of the same prawn who need the fluid to go back to the mothership. Villkus helps him retrieve the fliud when he finds out that he has a chance of returning back to his human state if he seeked medical attention on the mothership. What ensues is a firece batttle as he tries to help the aliens back to the mothership. I found the first hour or so of the movie a tad bit slow but necessary as it slowly builds up the story before it becomes a more action-packed half end, which I enjoyed more. If you read the background of the story, you'd realise there is a deeper, meaningful origin of what the movie represents and meant but District 9 is also equally entertaining as an action-adventure-alien movie.
